Alliance Executive Director, Alvaro Bermejo, is due to speak at the Annual General Meeting of STOPAIDS (formerly the UK Consortium on AIDS and Development) along with Jim Murphy MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development in the UK.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS TB and Malaria has announced that the Alliance is one of the preferred providers of technical assistance for Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs) who are undertaking their Eligibility and Performance Assessment.

At last week’s UN General Assembly Special Event on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), world leaders committed to accelerate efforts to achieve the targets by 2015, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Since 2004, our Middle East and North Africa programme has been successfully building the capacity of groups of men who have sex with men to undertake HIV prevention. This is despite operating in countries where same sex activity is criminalised. How can the rest of Africa learn from this programme?
Tuberculosis (TB) is still the most common opportunistic infection and cause of death among people living with HIV. While TB is curable and HIV is treatable, too often people do not access services quickly enough. More has to be done to fight these two diseases, and community organisations have an important role to play.
Alliance programming draws on a strong evidence-base of existing and emerging HIV research. We also contribute to this knowledge base by conducting research ourselves. We have recently contributed to three new pieces of published research and set up a partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The Alliance and GNP+ have published the results of their community consultation which informed the development of the recent World Health Organization Consolidated Guidelines on the Use of Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ARV) for HIV Treating and Preventing HIV Infection.

As leaders and senior ministers meet in New York this week for the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Alliance will be advocating for a strong commitment to HIV, health, marginalised groups, and community responses in the new post-2015 Development Framework.
The Alliance has responded to today’s announcement by the Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening, that the UK government is to commit £1 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria over the next three years.
