Last week the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) announced a new collaboration with ViiV Healthcare - a joint venture of GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, and Shionogi - to work together to increase access to HIV medicines for children. We very much welcome the announcement as the initiative is an important step forward in improving treatment for children living with HIV.

At the ongoing CROI conference (Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections), researchers from the University of Mississippi presented the case of an infant ‘functionally cured’ of HIV. This means that the HIV virus is no longer actively multiplying in the infant, who initially tested HIV-positive.

The Alliance has compiled a case study to share widely the preparatory work of the India HIV/AIDS Alliance (Alliance India) and its partners in advance of an audit by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria in late 2012.
The Alliance has been working with International Civil Society Support (ICSS) and ICASO to mobilise the global HIV community around a new framework to replace the Millennium Development Goals after 2015.
