Today is World TB Day, a reminder of the dangers of TB for those living with HIV. 33 million people are infected with HIV worldwide and 1.1 million people are co-infected with both TB and HIV.

5,000 people die from TB every day and TB accounts for a quarter of all AIDS-related deaths.

This World TB day offers an opportunity to reflect on the recent developments made in the area of tuberculosis research and development, including the newly endorsed geneXpert which can has the potential to significantly increase TB case finding as well as diagnosis to Rifampicin resistance.
