Tanya, who is Head of Field Programs Team at Alliance Ukraine and Programme Manager of the Community Action on Harm Reduction project, was presented with the award at the Alliance ‘family’ meeting prior to the opening of the International AIDS Conference in Washington DC on Sunday 22 July.
Presenting the award, Brandee Butler, Levi Strauss Programme Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “When the call went out for nominations, the Pioneer Award selection committee received many compelling responses. But Tanya’s innovative prevention approaches in Cherkassy stood out as a clear example of the pioneering spirit that we seek to honour.”
She continued “People like Tanya are visionaries and see opportunities where others see hurdles. Today, we celebrate Tanya’s contribution to the fight against HIV and AIDS and pay tribute to her vision, commitment and leadership.”
Accepting the award, Tanya said “I am proud to receive this award in front of colleagues from the Alliance partnership as I am not the first Alliance representative to receive this Pioneer Award. Ginan Koesmayadi from Rumah Cemera has also been honoured.”
In addition to the award, Alliance Ukraine will receive US$15,000 which Tanya announced would be used to improve ICT systems for the organisation.
