Trans*Pride Brighton – celebrating gender diversity

Trans Pride logo

The UK’s first Trans* Pride event will take place over three days (26-28th July) in Brighton and Hove, where the Alliance secretariat is based, one week ahead of Brighton Pride.

Over the weekend, artists, musicians, comedians and speakers will take the stage to celebrate gender identity diversity throughout the city. You can see the full programme of events here.

The organisers of this event were motivated by the fact that “for too many years now, within the LGBT community the transgender community has come last, in both acronym and visibility. Trans* Pride is putting the T first.”

Through this groundbreaking event the LGB community can show support and promote equality across all borders, and is a day of celebration for all transgender people, people who identify as gender variant, and their families and allies.

Trans* Pride has chosen to use this time of celebration to officially endorse and  generate support for REDLACTRANS and the Alliance’s Just Like You campaign.

Every year, over 200 transgender people are killed in Latin America. This is over 80% of the world’s reported cases. Just Like You calls on the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean to promote gender identity laws to guarantee the well-being and rights of every citizen and to put a stop to unpunished and systematic violence against transgender people in the region. You can take action here. http://www.justlikeyou.la/

Trans* Pride follows the UK launch in February of The night is another country, a REDLACTRANS/Alliance report on the impunity and violence against transgender women human rights defenders in Latin America.
