In our fifth good practice update, Dr Ade Fakoya, senior advisor on HIV and health services in the Alliance Best Practice team, presents the theory behind using antiretroviral treatment to prevent HIV transmission, and looks at mathematical models of its potential impact. It also discusses the related issue of population based HIV testing, including examples from Alliance programmes.
Dr Fakoya goes on to summarise the main issues surrounding treatment as prevention, and gives a brief review of key studies.
