The meeting was organised by the European Parliament Working Group on Innovation , Access to Medicines and Poverty Related Diseases and hosted by Jan Kozlowski MEP (Poland, Member of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Delegation).
The panel included Zahedul Islam, Director of Treatment, Procurement and Policy at Alliance Ukraine, as well as representatives from the European Parliament, the European External Action Service, WHO European Region and MSF.
The event was attended by around 50 participants from the EU institutions, UN agencies and NGOs.
Zahedul presented on “Public health risks fuelled by MDR-TB and TB-HIV coinfection in Ukraine” which described the civil society response in Ukraine and highlighted the challenges faced by NGOs, including the recent government crackdown on drug substitution therapy.
