Events took place in two cities, San Fernando City of La Union and Pasay City, and there were over 2,000 participants, supported by 145 volunteers.
During the events signatures were gathered for a call to action on the rising rate of HIV infections in the country. The Philippines is one of only seven countries in the world to have more than a 25% increase in HIV incidence according to the latest UNAIDS Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic.
1,311 signatures were collected and these will be delivered to the Philippines National AIDS Council.
The fun runs also aimed to generate funds to maintain the Philippines based HIV information sharing web portal www.pinoylifeguide.org which was developed and is maintained by the community of people living with HIV.
The event was led by the author of the proposed anti-discrimination law in Congress, Bayan Muna Partylist representative Teddy Casiño and UNAIDS Country Coordinator, Ms. Teresita Marie Bagasao. Groups representing infected and most-at-risk populations as well as faith-based organisations joined the event.
Funding support was provided by the MAC AIDS Fund and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance through PHANSuP’s Community Engagement Strengthening for the Philippine HIV Response Project.
