The website can be accessed here: www.respondiendo.ning.com
The website invites Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to exchange information through PDF materials, blogs, forums, photographs, video or audio with the aim of providing an information bank addressing some of the challenges around different implementation methods in Mexico.
Colectivo Sol explains how the network should work: “An organisation might publish an example of how it has used the peer to peer education strategy; another organisation might be interested in making contact, and the two organisations might then share more detailed information enabling the adaptation of the strategy to new contexts or localities.”
Challenges to working with MSM in Mexico
This initiative was part of the project 'Responding to the Weaknesses and Failures in Program Delivery of Mexican Civil Society Organizations in their HIV/AIDS Preventive Work with Gay Men, MSM and the Trans Population in Mexico', which was implemented in 2011 with the support of AIDSTAR-Two Project (funded by USAID), the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and Censida.
Through this project, Colectivo Sol worked with 70 CSOs to better understand and document the challenges faced by these organizations in the HIV prevention work they carry out.
A case study conducted by Colectivo Sol brought together and described the nine prevention strategies that were most popular among Mexican CSOs: Outreach, Voluntary Counseling and HIV Testing, Peer to Peer Education, Capacity and Skills Building, Information, Education and Communication (IEC), Social Marketing of Condoms and Lubricants, Community Mobilization and Harm Reduction, Advocacy and Reduction of Stigma and Discrimination.
Addressing the need to develop more formal approaches to the effective implementation of prevention strategies, Colectivo Sol prepared a “Compendium of the Most Utilized Prevention Strategies employed by Mexican CSOs working on HIV/AIDS and Sexual Diversity”, to offer easily usable and practical guidelines to help Mexican CSOs working on HIV prevention to describe, organise, implement, monitor, evaluate and document the implementation of the prevention strategies that they use most frequently.
