New Linking Organisation in Zimbabwe

The Alliance is delighted to announce that The Zimbabwe AIDS Network is now an Alliance Linking Organisation. ZAN is a national membership network of over 200 HIV/AIDS service organisations in Zimbabwe.

ZAN’s accreditation is “a graduation to a higher level of excellence”, says ZAN’s National Director Lindiwe Chaze-Jangira. “The Alliance will strengthen our role in advocacy at all levels, while their experience in developing targeted tools and drawing lessons learnt will help ZAN members in achieving the mission and vision of the new strategy”.

ZAN’s strategic objectives are:

  • Providing organisational development and technical capacity support to member organisations
  • resource mobilisation and grant making
  • promotion of information sharing and networking and advocacy

A key achievement came in 2008 at the peak of the socio-economic challenges in Zimbabwe. The government banned civil society operations, but ZAN successfully lobbied them for exemption of organizations providing life saving HIV and AIDS services and humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
