There are 6.1 million people living with HIV in South Africa. Of these 410,000 are children, and 2.5 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
We work with the AIDS Consortium in South Africa, a network of over 1,000 organisations working in the HIV response. The AIDS Consortium brings people and organisations together to ensure that communities are at the heart of the response, and are given the information and support they need. The AIDS Consortium’s programmes are underpinned by protecting the human rights of people living with HIV.
The Alliance also works in South Africa as part of the USAID funded Thogomelo Project, implementing a nationwide training project that supports caregivers to meet the challenges they face in caring for children orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS.
