ARV treatment fact sheet 12: Stigma and ARV treatment

ARV fact sheet 12: Stigma and ART (English) 112.0Kb
Now that ARV treatment is more widely accessible, it is accepted that people with HIV, their families and communities have an important role to play alongside health workers in ensuring effective and sustained treatment. They should be engaged not only in preparing for ARV treatment but also in supporting the life-time commitment that this involves.

The Alliance has developed a set of fact sheets to support community engagement for antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. The fact sheets provide NGO and CBO staff and volunteers with brief information in non-technical language, to help them to support PLHA and their communities on ARV treatment. They are based on experience with treatment support programmes in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

This fact sheet explains how stigma can affect ARV treatment and what can be done to reduce its effects.
