Côte d'Ivoire has a generalised HIV epidemic with an estimated prevalence of 3.4% and as many as 440,000 of the nation’s children are orphans due to AIDS. There is also an extremely high prevalence among vulnerable groups such as sex workers (44%) and men who have sex with men (43%).
The country’s political instability has greatly hampered the response to HIV, and has resulted in limited access to health care and medication.
In order to improve the HIV response in the country ANS-CI works to build the capacity of national NGOs and CBOs. It manages sub-grants and provides financial and technical support to community based and civil society organisations.
ANS-CI is one the Principal Recipients for Global Fund Round 9 (GFR9) in Côte d’Ivoire, for a project called ‘Strengthening the national response to HIV to scale up prevention and comprehensive care, factoring in gender and key populations’. Work focuses on:
