WHAT WE DO
A broad reach
MAMTA works through networking, capacity building, direct intervention, advocacy and research in close association with the Government and public health systems, civil society, research institutions and the community at large.
MAMTA has built the capacity of over 150 community based organisations in 11 states on issues related to sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and care and support, with a special focus on young people, children and women.
MAMTA has contributed significantly to policy and programme formulation at state and national levels especially on the issue of HIV/AIDS.
Care and support
As part of the CHAHA programme, financed by the Global Fund, MAMTA provides community-based care and support for children and families affected by HIV in four districts of Maharashtra.
The organisation also supports community-based care for people living with HIV and affected children in Delhi, with funding from the Abbott Fund.
HIV prevention
In Haryana and Delhi, MAMTA works to reduce HIV and STI infections among men who have sex with men through a gender and rights based approach, with funding from the State AIDS Control Societies. The project in Haryana also works with female sex workers.
MAMTA is also conducting a pilot study on mainstreaming link workers with front-line health workers in the Ajmer and Nagpur districts with the support of UNDP.
Reaching out to Communities
MAMTA is working on community action for sexual and reproductive health and rights policies in Asia with support from EU in Uttar Pradesh and in Bangladesh. This is to strengthen and empower youth groups and networks to advocate for young people’s participation sexual reproductive health programming and policy processes.
Working with networks and organisations for people living with HIV
Another project supported by EU is the ‘Working Towards Better Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of People Living with HIV in India’ project. MAMTA is working with the Network of Maharashtra People Living With HIV (NMP+) to implement it in five districts of Maharashtra
Fighting tuberculosis
In Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi MAMTA is strengthening civil society organisations for tuberculosis care and control with the support of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and Central T.B. Division. MAMTA is also advocating on behalf of people affected by tuberculosis.
Sexual and reproductive health and rights
MAMTA has several projects addressing young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, including a five-year EC-funded project in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
MAMTA is also implementing a project supported by RFSU (Sweden) which addresses strengthening policies and programmes for the sexual and reproductive health rights of young people through advocacy in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.
Reducing vulnerability to HIV amongst girls in rural areas
MAMTA has taken a new initiative on reducing HIV vulnerability amongst adolescent girls (10-19 years) in rural areas, especially those from poorer backgrounds. This project is being implemented in four districts in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
