Advancing Human Rights: Responding to HIV

Human rights are central to effective HIV responses.

The Alliance’s commitment to promote and protect human rights lies at the very heart of our mission and strategy to support community action, particularly among those most vulnerable and marginalised, to prevent HIV infection, to meet the challenges of HIV, and to build healthier communities.

In May 2010 we undertook a human rights survey among our national Linking Organisations and partners to help us better understand where we are now in our efforts to protect and promote rights, and what we could do to strengthen these efforts.

The survey data, based on a 59% response rate, suggest there is a wide range of human rights work being undertaken by Alliance partners. It also provides a better understanding of Alliance partners’ capacity and support needs.
