New Global Fund role for Alliance in Madagascar
28 April 2005
International non-governmental organisations working in Madagascar have selected the Alliance’s country office there to be one of their representatives on the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, along with Médecins du Monde and Catholic Relief Services. The Country Coordinating Mechanism is the committee responsible for coordinating projects financed by the Global Fund.
The Country Coordinating Mechanism was recently ‘re-built’ to ensure that civil society organisations would make up at least 40 percent of seats, and include associations representing people affected by AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
Over the next two months, the three international NGO representatives will work with local NGOs to ensure that civil society perspectives help define priority areas, and to help develop funding proposals for the fifth round of financing. The representatives have already had a major influence on the process for developing these proposals, recommending a streamlined process that gives more time for strategic thinking during the proposal development process and the analysis of gaps in the current response, and leaving discussions on the details of implementation and recipients for later.
