ARV treatment fact sheet 03: Counselling & testing for HIV

ARV fact sheet 3: Couselling and testing (English) 114.5Kb
Now that ARV treatment is more widely accessible, it is accepted that people with HIV, their families and communities have an important role to play alongside health workers in ensuring effective and sustained treatment. They should be engaged not only in preparing for ARV treatment but also in supporting the life-time commitment that this involves.

The Alliance has developed a set of fact sheets to support community engagement for antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. The fact sheets provide NGO and CBO staff and volunteers with brief information in non-technical language, to help them to support PLHA and their communities on ARV treatment. They are based on experience with treatment support programmes in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

This fact sheet summarizes what HIV counseling and testing and counseling are, and the ways in which they are related to ARV treatment, including testing in order to access treatment and the importance of access to ARV treatment as an encouragement for people to find out their HIV status.
