Recognition for 'The children left behind'
29 July 2005
Photographs of the work of the Alliance and partners in Mozambique, taken by photographer Gideon Mendel, have been short listed for Amnesty International's 14th annual media awards, which recognise excellence in human rights reporting. Gideon’s images have been short listed for the photojournalism category.
Gideon took the photos of vulnerable children and older carers on his trip to Mozambique with Alliance staff at the end of 2004. The images appeared in the UK newspaper The Guardian in December 2004, and on their global website. Stories of the children and carers accompanied the photos in a moving and powerful piece: The children left behind.
The winning entry will be announced on 21 September at the awards ceremony in London. Chris Pupp, country director of the Mozambique office will represent the Alliance at the awards.
