Global Fund money to be channelled through civil society

ANCS appointed Global Fund Principal Recipient for civil society in Senegal

Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA (ANCS), the Alliance’s linking organisation in Senegal, has signed a contract for $2.9 million over 2.5 years with the Global Fund which will see it disbursing onward grants to community-based organisations.

The study concluded that that organisations need to pay attention to both gender and the specific needs of different groups in the delivery of HIV prevention services.

Alliance linking organisation Initiative Privée et Communautaire Contre le SIDA and other organisations in Burkina Faso have been looking at programmes that address wider social and economic issues.


Alliance co-organises and sponsors the First National Harm Reduction Conference in Ukraine

The conference focused on the introduction of opioid-substitution and maintenance therapy programmes in Ukraine. An estimated 70% of people living with HIV/AIDS in Ukraine are injecting drug users.

New Global Fund board member calls for strengthened links with global and regional networks

Alliance staff member Javier Hourcade Bellocq has been appointed alternate board member for the communities delegation to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Agreement between the Alliance and UK Department for International Development strengthened by funding increase

The £2 million increase forms part of a six-year strategic funding Partnership Programme Agreement between the Alliance and DFID, which runs until 2011.
