Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA (ANCS), the Alliance’s linking organisation in Senegal, has signed a contract for $2.9 million over 2.5 years with the Global Fund which will see it disbursing onward grants to community-based organisations.
The study concluded that that organisations need to pay attention to both gender and the specific needs of different groups in the delivery of HIV prevention services.
Alliance linking organisation Initiative Privée et Communautaire Contre le SIDA and other organisations in Burkina Faso have been looking at programmes that address wider social and economic issues.
The conference focused on the introduction of opioid-substitution and maintenance therapy programmes in Ukraine. An estimated 70% of people living with HIV/AIDS in Ukraine are injecting drug users.
Alliance staff member Javier Hourcade Bellocq has been appointed alternate board member for the communities delegation to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
The £2 million increase forms part of a six-year strategic funding Partnership Programme Agreement between the Alliance and DFID, which runs until 2011.
