ARV treatment fact sheet 07: Commonly used ARVs – basic information

ARV fact sheet 7: Commonly used ARVs (English) 377.0Kb
Now that ARV treatment is more widely accessible, it is accepted that people with HIV, their families and communities have an important role to play alongside health workers in ensuring effective and sustained treatment. They should be engaged not only in preparing for ARV treatment but also in supporting the life-time commitment that this involves.

The Alliance has developed a set of fact sheets to support community engagement for antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. The fact sheets provide NGO and CBO staff and volunteers with brief information in non-technical language, to help them to support PLHA and their communities on ARV treatment. They are based on experience with treatment support programmes in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

This twelve page fact sheet provides brief information on each of the ARVs that are commonly and widely used, including dosage, food restrictions, side effects, drug interactions and storage requirements. It does not provide sufficient information for use in prescribing ARV treatment.
