Standing up for HIV prevention: the Alliance on film
28 September 2006
A ten-minute film from award-winning director Staffan Hildebrand featuring the Alliance’s HIV prevention initiatives in New Delhi was launched at the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto in August. The film, called Standing up for HIV prevention, opened the satellite session on global HIV prevention.
Shot in Moscow, Rio, Washington DC, Bangkok, Gothenburg, Lusaka, Cape Town and New Delhi, the film shows adolescents and peer educators spreading prevention messages through activities like street plays and group meetings. It prominently features the India HIV/AIDS Alliance’s HIV prevention initiatives as part of the sexual and reproductive health and HIV integration programme in the relocated slums of Khedakhurd and Holombi Kalan on the outskirts of New Delhi.
Sarita Mann, programme coordinator from Child Survival India (an Alliance-supported non-governmental organisation in New Delhi) appears in the film, saying: “I am very happy with my group now. Earlier, the adolescent girls were very quiet but now they have become vocal.”
Standing up for HIV prevention has been produced for Face of AIDS and UNAIDS in Geneva and funded by the Royal Swedish Foreign Ministry. For more information or to order a copy of the film contact info@faceofaids.org or visit: www.faceofaids.org.
