DFID partners boost injecting drug user programming
29 September 2006
Partners of the UK Department for International Development, India (DFID) met recently to agree programming objectives and advise the Indian government on increasing the impact of interventions for injecting drug users. The meeting also outlined resource needs.
The three-day DFID Programme Management Office (PMO) meeting acknowledged Alliance India as a pioneer in home and community-based care and support for injecting drug users. It also pointed out the potential in the Alliance-initiated support group model for female injecting drug users.
The meeting brought together all of DFID’s non-governmental organisation partners working in India. The Alliance and its partners also participated, together with representatives from the United Nations and the Indian government.
It proved a successful forum for exchanging ideas and experiences and reaching broad agreements on programming. It also provided opportunities for networking that eventually will contribute towards an improved response.
