Exhibition dates and related events

A series of exhibitions and events are planned to bring the experiences of those involved in Unheard Voices, Hidden Lives to audiences internationally, as well as in Cambodia, Ecuador, India and the UK.

Online

The exhibition can be viewed on this website – click on the navigation links on the left hand menu to view participants from Cambodia, Ecuador and India. You can also download a companion book.

Brighton, UK

An exhibition of the photographs is being held in Brighton, the home of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance’s secretariat from Monday November 13 until Monday December 4.

It is being held at the award winning Jubilee Library, Jubilee Street, Brighton, BN1 1GE, United Kingdom.

The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Cambodia

In Cambodia, the photos will be used in a series of activities to raise community awareness in the provinces of Battambang, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukvile. These include working with communities and community leaders, photo exhibitions, role plays, speeches and discussions. Those that took part in the photography workshops will lead the activities which, in addition to raising awareness, aim to build a foundation to start collaborating with local authorities to reduce stigma and discrimination, and to promote the voices of populations key to the epidemic to the public, to policy makers, to donors and civil society.

An exhibition and press launch targeting the media, NGOs, policy makers and donors in Phnom Penh city is being planned for December or early January.

India

In India, participants presented a selection of their work at Spandana – moving images, an exhibition held in Begumpet, Hyderabad on 2 November and opened by Shri Ashok Kumar, the Project Director of the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society. The print media were also invited, along with members of key populations, NGO partners, government representatives and staff from Alliance India Andhra Pradesh. A panel judged the best photographs, and all participants were given prizes and certificates.

Participants involved in the project are now using their new skills to document training, workshops and other events with their respective community and non-governmental organisations, and use of the cameras is being shared with their groups.

Ecuador

Participants in Ecuador had the difficult job of selecting the best 15 of their photos (which ranged from between 60 and 1,000 in total). The chosen photos were enlarged and formed part of a group exhibition which will be launched at a national HIV-AIDS meeting to be held in Quito, Ecuador from 28 to 30 November 2007. They are also in the process of planning other opportunities to make best use of the materials. Find out more about the photography training in Ecuador (in Spanish or English).

London, UK

The exhibition also took place in association with Universal access: delivering on the promise for key populations, a one day conference held in London on Friday November 17 at which the Alliance and its implementing partners shared their experiences of developing and delivering HIV prevention services in association with sex workers, men who have sex with men, and people living with HIV in India, Ecuador, Cambodia, Morocco and Madagascar.
