Country Case Studies

A number of documents in this section look at examples of country responses to the situation faced by children and young people as a result of HIV/AIDS. Others look at the work of particular organisations in one or more countries. These include reports of country visits, participatory workshops and longer-term research projects. Documents are arranged in alphabetical order of country/region. See also descriptions of individual projects.

Three kinds of activity are covered:

1. Pre-existing arrangements for caring for children which started before the onset of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This includes a review of one society's approach to care of all children and those that are particularly vulnerable.

2. Specific responses to the effects of HIV/AIDS. These may involve extending the activities which were happening before HIV/AIDS or they may be something new. In some cases, they may be targeted specifically towards children affected by HIV/AIDS. However, it is better if they include all vulnerable children.

3. The national policy environment . Some documents focus on policy initiatives, particularly when considering the role of national governments.
