Alliance to introduce quality assurance system across programmes
02 May 2007
An accreditation system is to be developed to guide the admission of new linking organisations to the Alliance, and to encourage continuous quality improvement across its existing programmes and organisations. The initiative will be based on peer involvement and high level quality standards which will be developed collectively.
The decision was taken at the annual meeting of Alliance linking organisation and country office directors, held in Lusaka, Zambia in March 2007. The accreditation system will be developed as a means to ensure quality programmes across the Alliance and to support the capacity building of Alliance linking organisations, country offices and implementing partners.
A process for identifying and assessing potential new linking organisations of the Alliance was presented and approved. This was based on the recent experience of admitting two new linking organisations Via Libre in Peru and Institute para el Desarrollo Humano in Bolivia, after an assessment involving the Secretariat and two linking organisations from the region (Kimirina in Ecuador and Collectivo Sol in Mexico). Development and testing of a new accreditation system will now be taken forward by a cross-regional group.
The meeting in Zambia also continued the work to shape the organisational vision and strategic framework for 2008-2010. The Alliance’s core strategy remains unchanged, and will continue to focus on further strengthening community responses to HIV, and through this to make a major contribution to achieving universal access to HIV prevention, care and treatment that gives marginalised and vulnerable people an equal chance to access services and live healthier lives. A detailed strategic framework document outlining the Alliance’s plans for 2008-2010 will be available by the end of 2007.
Finally, the meeting gave Alliance directors a wider opportunity to share learning between their organisations, including from the Alliance’s experience in Zambia, and to continue building a common vision for our work as an alliance.
