Participating in the broader health agenda
29 May 2007
The Alliance’s Executive Director Alvaro Bermejo has been newly elected to the Global Health Council’s Board of Directors. The Global Health Council is the world's largest membership alliance dedicated to saving lives by improving health throughout the world. The Council works to ensure that all who strive for improvement and equity in global health have the information and resources they need to succeed.
Dr Bermejo was elected to the Board by the Global Health Council’s members, and will serve a three-year term.
“There is much to gain from a stronger interaction between the Council and those that are working from Europe to advance the global health agenda. I hope I can contribute to building more meaningful bridges,” he said.
“There is a lot of synergy with my work at the Alliance. At the Alliance we are working at many levels to see how we can maximise impact and resources – for example by linking sexual and reproductive health with HIV, and looking at the role that communities play in strengthening health systems. There are many lessons from the HIV response that can be applied to broader health responses – and vice versa."
"I look forward to finding new ways to push forward the global health agenda, and increase access to quality healthcare for those who need it most.”
