The International HIV/AIDS Alliance has teamed up with ChangingThePresent.org, a new concept in non-profit websites.
Every year, many billions are spent by people buying presents for their family and friends for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and other special occasions. Just imagine what we could accomplish if even a small percentage of that money were redirected to charities working to make the world a better place.
Many of us, and many of our friends, have no real need of some new item or gadget that may simply be consigned to the back of the wardrobe or hidden away in a drawer. However, we are still expected to give gifts. Since many of us are passionate about a favourite cause or charity, it's no wonder that more and more people are giving donation gifts, that is, a charitable donation made in a friend's name, in lieu of giving store-bought presents.
ChangingThePresent.org offers thousands of specific donation gifts from hundreds of leading charities, and the Alliance is one of the charities featured on this site. For example, your gift can help pay for HIV testing and counselling, the distribution of condoms, education initiatives or outreach work. This link will take you straight to our page.
Visitors to the site can browse by cause or search by name to find almost any charity, and they can peruse friends' wish lists and registries to find exactly what they would find most meaningful. When they have chosen a gift, they can create personalized greeting cards, which will be mailed the next day to announce the donations made in friends' names.
You’ll notice that the Alliance is referred to on the site as the International HIV/AIDS Alliance USA. This is because although the Alliance Secretariat is in the UK, we have a very small presence in the US; this facilitates fundraising from US donors and through partners such as Changing the Present.
