New Alliance global partnership icon launched

21 June 2007

An exciting new Alliance global partnership icon – representing the shared vision, mission and values of the 28 national members of the global Alliance – has been launched. The icon, which was developed by designers in Ecuador through the Alliance linking organisation Kimirina, will start to be incorporated into the identities of all Alliance linking organisations, country offices and secretariat from 16 July.

Developing the global partnership icon has been an important step for the Alliance, putting into practice our vision of an Alliance of national linking organisations working effectively together. The partnership icon demonstrates our shared vision, mission and values, and will boost the global recognition of the Alliance and the value it adds through community responses to HIV, and shared learning and exchange to enable faster responses.Amira Herdoiza, director of Kimirina, the Alliance linking organisation in Ecuador which collaborated with local designers to develop the icon, explains what it means to her: “This design uses a variation of the red AIDS ribbon to draw on its international recognition, and to immediately show the focus of the Alliance. The flowing design also reflects the dynamism and innovation of our partnership, as well as its collaborative nature and focus on communities. The spherical two-colour design also represents the importance of partnership working across the global AIDS response.”

Alvaro Bermejo, Alliance executive director, adds: “The design also represents the Alliance’s unity and inclusiveness. It aims to be cross-cultural with simplicity at the heart of its design – allowing the logo to complement rather than compete with existing organisational logos.”

The icon also reflects the Alliance’s focus on accessibility – aiming to be uncomplicated and bold.

The new icon will start to be incorporated into Alliance organisations’ identities from 16 July.
