Julia lost her husband to HIV in July 2006. She had no assistance or income to support her children. Now, through Alliance partner Mães Intercessoras, she and her family receive UNICEF-funded material assistance distributed by the Women & Social Welfare Office in Beira.
Julia found out she was HIV positive in early 2005, when her husband was seriously ill and she was advised to go for testing. She has been on antiretroviral treatment ever since. Julia has four children aged 4 to 12: Sandra, Laurinda, Fatima and Maria.
