Ten years of partnership in Cambodia

KHANA celebrates ten years of Alliance partnership as Cambodian prevalence rate drops

On 8 August 2007, KHANA, the Alliance’s linking organisation in Cambodia, marked a decade of partnership with the International HIV/AIDS Alliance – just as the Cambodian government announced encouraging new HIV prevalence rates of 0.9% among adults, down from 1.2% in 2003.

The Alliance is building partnerships in Indonesia to respond to a burgeoning HIV epidemic and weak civil society involvement.


Asia and Eastern Europe programmes celebrate 'blue sky week'

This August, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance’s annual ‘blue sky week’ for Asia and Eastern Europe took place in Cambodia, and gave Alliance partners in the region the chance to share news and ideas and to plan strategically and creatively together.


Alliance signs Global Fund Round 6 grant for five-year programme in Ukraine

After an intensive 18 months of preparation, the Alliance in Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Network of People living with HIV have become Principal Recipients of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s Round 6 grant to Ukraine. Together they will implement the five-year programme Support for HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and care for most vulnerable populations.


International photographer Alfredo D’Amato visits Alliance Mozambique

Renowned international photographer Alfredo D’Amato recently completed a photographic visit to Mozambique, where he worked with Alliance partners to interview and photograph orphans and vulnerable children and people living with HIV in Beira, Manica, and along the Zimbabwe border.


Alliance and UNICEF support community action in Mozambique

The Alliance in Mozambique has recently teamed up with UNICEF on an initiative called Supporting Community Action for Children and Families affected by HIV/AIDS. The aim of the project is to stimulate and strengthen community-based HIV responses to HIV in Mozambique.


Providing mobile outreach and voluntary HIV counselling and testing services in Zambia

In a region where access to HIV services is extremely limited, the Kalomo Mumuni centre is bringing mobile HIV services to a remote area of Zambia. This extended case study brings to life the unique work of Kalomo Mumuni.

UK government disappoints on first test of AIDS commitment

The Alliance expressed extreme disappointment at the announcement made by the UK government on 25 September that it would not be honouring the commitments made at the G8 in June 2007 to treble the size of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by 2010 to meet the Millennium Development Goals.


New International Health Partnership must build on AIDS accountability

September saw the launch of a new International Health Partnership aimed at accelerating progress towards achieving the health-related millennium development goals. While welcoming the partnership, the Alliance stressed that it must ensure that resources reach those in need in a transparent and accountable way.


Alliance Ukraine’s advocacy school is a unique initiative in the region

Alliance Ukraine is pioneering a unique initiative among former Soviet states – the annual Advocacy Summer School on HIV/AIDS. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of human rights advocates to influence and change HIV-related public policy and this year trained 24 NGO representatives.


Alliance India participates in rally to raise awareness about forthcoming HIV bill

The Alliance participated in a rally organised by the Indian network of people living with HIV to encourage the government to expedite an HIV bill, due to be tabled soon, which seeks to put an end to HIV-related discrimination.


Strengthening advocacy and political dialogue in Senegal

Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA, the Alliance’s linking organisation in Senegal, recently held a training workshop with a wide range of partner organisations to strengthen the capacity of civil society to lobby for greater involvement in the HIV response.


The Alliance participates in the Eighth International Conference on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

Alliance participation in the Eighth International Conference on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) included more than 40 delegates who contributed to conference posters, oral presentations, skills-building sessions, symposia and satellite events. This year’s event focused on scaling up policy and programmes.

Alliance highly commended in 2007 Charity Times awards
The Alliance received a ‘highly commended’ award at the recent Charity Times awards, which acknowledge and encourage best practice in the management of charities and not-for-profit organisations. The Alliance was nominated for the Charity of the Year category – as the only international organisation among the six shortlisted.
