Welcome to the February issue of the Alliance Publications Update. In this issue we bring you information about new Alliance resources that are now available. In 2007 the Alliance distributed over 55,000 publications to organisations world wide and over 500,000 publications were downloaded from the Alliance website. In 2008 the Alliance is committed to continuing its support to community organisations by providing up-to-date and accessible publications. Our future: sexuality and life skills education for young people in Zambia

Young, Happy, Healthy and Safe, Zambia (YHHS), is a partner in the Alliance’s Africa regional youth programme and is also implementing a project to train teachers to provide sexuality and life skills education to young people. With the help of YHHS, the series of Our Future books developed by the Alliance are being used by schools in Zambia as part of their curriculum to teach young people about puberty, friendship, gender, sexuality, pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and HIV.

Impact 2010: Strategic framework 2008-2010

IMPACT 2010 - the Alliance's strategic framework for 2008-2010 provides an overview of the aims and goals of the global Alliance partnership for the three years ahead. It offers direction to those making strategic decisions, guidance to partner organisations and country offices, and communicates our shared strategy with external partners that support our work. The strategy will also be valuable to other organisations, such as governments, private business and other NGOs who want to achieve the same vision.

The health journey

The health journey is a simple and highly useful tool that provides a starting point for community engagement and community-centred health service planning. Part one explains what a health journey is and who can make use of the methodology, part two explains how to set up and use the methodology and part three provides five different examples of health journey workshops and what impacts resulted from them.

Positive prevention

In the context of expanding provision of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment which is bringing improved health and new hope to many people living with HIV, ‘Positive prevention’ aims to provide a starting point from which NGOs and HIV service providers can support HIV positive people to lead full and healthy lives.
This guide is intended as a resource to help NGOs and HIV service providers working across the spectrum of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services to take steps towards integrating HIV prevention for, by and with people living with HIV. 'Positive prevention' will also be of use to individuals living with HIV and their partners

Network capacity analysis: rapid assessment guide

The aim of this toolkit is to build the skills required by civil society networks to develop and strengthen their capacity. They can be used by networks to help identify their capacity building needs, plan technical support interventions, and monitor and evaluate the impact of capacity building.
The Rapid guide can be used to plan, steer, and collect outcomes of a meeting or teleconference where, due to specific needs or limited resources, the aim is to do a more rapid capacity analysis.

New publications in development

Multilingual publications CD-ROM For the first time the Alliance publications and resources CD-ROM will enable readers to use it in four languages (English, French, Portuguese and Spanish). This new multilingual CD-ROM will contain over 250 publications produced by the Alliance and its partners.
Available in February 2008. Sex work and violence This guide discusses the challenges involved in ensuring that violence is addressed in HIV programmes, gives a detailed understanding of violence in relation to sex work and challenges some common assumptions. The guide also provides examples of ways in which HIV and AIDS projects can help reduce the incidence of violence against sex workers and provide support to those who experience violence.
