Alliance welcomes new board member

Jacqueline Rocha CĂ´rtes

The Alliance has welcomed Jacqueline Rocha Côrtes, an HIV and human rights activist and consultant from Brazil, as a new member of its board of trustees. She was appointed to the board on the first day of the trustees’ recent meeting in Rabat, Morocco, held at the beginning of November.

“Jacqueline is highly respected in the region’s HIV response,” said Alliance Executive Director Alvaro Bermejo, “and we are delighted to have her as a new board member. Her experiences will add to the mix and diversity of the Alliance’s board.”

To date, Jacqueline’s experience includes advocacy work with Brazil’s national AIDS programme, being a member of UNAIDS’ Programme Coordinating Board, being a steering committee member of the World AIDS Campaign, and a member of Cidadãs Posithivas, a Brazilian positive women’s group.

She is involved with the Brazilian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (RNP+), the National Movement of Women living with AIDS (MNCP+), and the Latin American and the Caribbean Movement of Women Living with AIDS (MLCM+).

Jacqueline has also worked in local health, represented the Brazilian government at the 58th United Nations Human Rights Special Session in Geneva, and actively participated in a positive people’s networks, including as a board member.

“I was very lucky to be with Jacqueline in Brazil for a couple of days and I can say she is a great ambassador for the Alliance and the region!” said Erika Páez-Manjarrés, the Alliance’s Senior Programme Officer, Latin America and the Caribbean.
