Alliance India training supports effective service delivery
06 December 2007
Workshops organised by Alliance India have been helping programme partners and outreach workers to implement their programmes effectively. Two recent examples include supporting outreach workers to better select children for the provision of HIV services and helping partners and implementing organisations to strengthen advocacy work within their programmes.
Supporting outreach workers
Over 300 outreach workers have participated in workshops supported by Alliance India to help them support children affected by HIV.
The workshops, which took place in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Manipur, aimed to help partners involved in delivering care and support services to children living with and affected by HIV to improve their understanding of selecting children for the provision of services. The training included basic information on HIV, programme components, and monitoring.
Outreach workers in the programme are community-based, interacting with families and children affected by HIV, increasing HIV awareness, and sharing messages on HIV prevention and care. The increased knowledge from the workshops will help the outreach workers gain acceptance at the community level in delivering the programme, and provide appropriate services more effectively.
Advocacy workshop
A three-day advocacy capacity building workshop in October 2007, organised by Alliance India, helped 25 participant to plan, initiate, integrate and reinforce advocacy work within their programmes, providing a platform for participants to share their common concerns. The workshop was for project coordinators and partners of Alliance India’s lead partner Vasavya Mahila Mandali.
Participants identified issues affecting the impact of their programmes, unanimously identifying lack of access to treatment as the most significant advocacy issue. As a result, participants developed a common advocacy plan on access to treatment in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Workshop participants also agreed to explore the possibility of initiating child-led advocacy initiatives, by creatively engaging children in advocacy work.
“The workshop was very helpful for effective implementation of the programme,” said participant Hrudaya Raj. “Practical solutions of the problems were displayed through participatory and playful methods during the workshop.”
All participants were provided with copies of the Alliance’s Advocacy in action toolkit in English and Telegu.
