IMPACT 2010: new strategy to take community action to scale
28 January 2008
The Alliance has set out an ambitious new three-year strategy that will see community action making a demonstrable contribution to curbing the HIV epidemic by 2010.
IMPACT 2010, the Alliance’s strategic framework from 2008 to 2010, will see the Alliance supporting community responses to HIV in 40 countries through 50 linking organisations. In 19 of these countries, Alliance programmes will be national in scale – impacting at least one of the national indicators for universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
The three-year strategy will also see the Alliance continue to support marginalised groups with a higher risk of HIV infection. An accreditation programme will guarantee quality across the Alliance, with technical expertise being shared not just with Alliance linking organisations and partners, but with other civil society organisations participating in the response.
“Our plans in IMPACT 2010 are ambitious, but we know that they are needed at a time when the epidemic continues to outpace the response,” said the Alliance’s Executive Director Alvaro Bermejo. “With the commitment of our staff and supporters these goals are achievable and have the potential to improve the lives of millions of people.”
