India: policy and advocacy
Social, economic and political issues create formidable barriers to the achievement of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services, and increase people’s vulnerability to HIV – especially key populations and vulnerable groups.
The Alliance in India is committed to working with civil society partners to tackle these barriers with a coordinated and wide-ranging response – one that includes multiple stakeholders from the health and HIV sectors and beyond.
Alliance India’s contribution to ensuring universal access includes
- advocating for the integration of HIV programmes and services into wider poverty reduction and development processes (HIV mainstreaming)
- promoting the greater involvement of people living with or affected by HIV (GIPA)
- addressing the integration of HIV with other sexual and reproductive health needs of women and men, especially those from key populations
- strengthening community and health systems to increase access and expand coverage
- advocating for financing of HIV programmes for marginalised or key populations.
