Eleven Alliance organisations have been named as principal or sub-recipients in country proposals for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria's eighth round of funding. Although the final proposals are currently being reviewed and yet to be approved, the estimated funding for Alliance partners of around US$250 million over five years will have a significant impact on the Alliance’s targets for 2010, including the Alliance’s contribution to universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.

The following Alliance organisations have been named as principal recipients:

  • Anti-AIDS Association, Kyrgyzstan
  • Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA, Sénégal
  • Civil Society on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria
  • Corporación Kimirina, Ecuador
  • Initiative Privée et Communautaire Contre le Sida au Burkina Faso
  • India HIV/AIDS Alliance
  • International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Southern Sudan
  • Philippine NGO Support Program, Inc

The following have been named as sub-recipients:

  • Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA en Côte d'Ivoire
  • International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Zambia
  • Khmer HIV/AIDS NGO Alliance, Cambodia

The deadline for the proposal submissions was 1 July. Applicants will find out how their proposals have been rated by mid-October (a change this year due to an additional ninth round happening in late 2008).

“There are a thousand stories behind this list and one of the activities that we feel has been instrumental in enabling us all to achieve this result has been the opportunity to share experiences and support across the Alliance,” said Paul McCarrick, head of the Alliance’s Global Fund Grant Support Team.

“Although there are some hard negotiations to come, this is still very encouraging news as we work towards our 2010 targets,” he added.

The additional funding round – Round 9 – will be launched on 1 October and close in January 2009. The guidelines will be the same as Round 8 and new applicants can start work on their proposals now.
