Prevention

The Alliance believes that prevention programmes are effective only if designed, developed and implemented with the involvement of the communities concerned – making them better targeted and owned by them. The Alliance works to build NGOs’ capacity to mobilise communities, assess, plan and implement HIV/AIDS interventions together, and build social capital.

To this end, the Alliance has developed safe sex resources and focused prevention training tools for sex workers, people living with HIV, men who have sex with men, and young people. Publications currently planned or in development include: training manuals for teachers, a participatory assessment and response toolkit, sexuality and life-skills materials for pupils and community peer educators, and a gender, sexuality and HIV toolkit aimed at enabling men and women to explore their lives and identify desired changes in their sexual and gender relationships in Zambia.
