AIDS Care Education & Training (ACET) provides sexual health education, HIV and AIDS care and professional training in communities around the world.
AIDS Law Project, South Africa (ALP) is based at the Centre for Applied Legal Studies at University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. It is an organisation that specialises in helping people with HIV/AIDS to deal with illegal discrimination. They also carry out research on many of the difficult social, legal and human rights issues around AIDS. They use their research to inform the development of law, policies and "best practice" recommendations on questions such as AIDS and employment, AIDS and pregnancy, AIDS and development, AIDS and women.
Care of Women with HIV/AIDS Living in Limited Resource Settings – The JHPIEGO Reproline website offers a resource in the form of 11 tutorials on the care of women with HIV/AIDS living in limited-resource settings. Physicians, faculty, health care trainers and others can acquire the technical knowledge necessary to provide high-quality services on the following topics: prevention, voluntary counseling and testing, reproductive health, HIV and pregnancy, HIV and breastfeeding, HIV and nutrition, antiretroviral therapy for both pregnant and non-pregnant women, and HIV and tuberculosis.
Global Health Council is an umbrella organisation of professionals in health care, non-governmental and governmental organisations, academic institutions, foundations and corporations. The Council advocates, builds alliances and communicates ideas and best practices in health. It produces a regular magazine on HIV/AIDS called AIDSLink.
International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) works to accelerate the development of AIDS vaccines and assure worldwide access.
Lawyers Collective HIV/AIDS Unit, India provides free legal aid and allied services for people affected by HIV/AIDS and conducts extensive advocacy, research and policy initiatives on legal and human rights issues related to HIV/AIDS.
Living Well with HIV/AIDS – A manual on nutritional care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS Produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization, this manual is intended for home care workers and local service providers. It covers topics such as: the benefits of good nutrition for people and families living with HIV, the importance of healthy and balanced nutrition for everyone, special eating needs for people living with HIV, protecting the quality and safety of food, caring for people living with HIV, and herbal treatments and remedies. Annexes supply recipes and food for a healthy diet, forms to help monitor food intake and weight changes over time, information on important vitamins and minerals for people living with HIV, and a list of institutions and organisations providing support to people living with HIV.
NAM provides a wealth of information on HIV across the world for positive people and the professionals who treat, support and care for them. It includes searchable databases of HIV treatment and care, worldwide HIV organisation listings, and comprehensive ranges of patient information. The Alliance is working in partnership with NAM to produce a regular electronic newsletter for health care workers and community-based organisations on HIV treatment in resource-limited settings.
The orphans and other vulnerable children support toolkit is a collection by the Alliance and FHI of infomation, tools and guidance on supporting orphans and other vulnerable children living in a world with HIV/AIDS. It covers a wide range of subject areas and within them offers links to relevant websites.
Population Council is an international, non-profit institution that conducts research on three fronts: biomedical, social science, and public health. This research and the information it produces helps change the way people think about problems related to reproductive health and population growth.
Reproductive Health Outlook (RHO) is produced by PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health) and especially designed for reproductive health programme managers and decision makers working in developing countries and limited-resource settings.
Target TB was established in 2003 in response to the global TB emergency. It gives funding, support and advice to local partner organisations in Southern Africa and South Asia which work directly with impoverished communities affected by TB.
Treatment Action Campaign campaigns for greater access to treatment for all South Africans, by raising public awareness and understanding about issues surrounding the availability, affordability and use of HIV treatments.
UNAIDS the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) leads, strengthens and supports an expanded response aimed at preventing transmission of HIV, providing care and support, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS, and alleviating the impact of the epidemic.
WHO the World Health Organization is the United Nations specialised agency for health. Part of their website focuses on their 3 by 5 initiative which is a global target to provide three million people living with HIV/AIDS in developing and middle income countries with life-prolonging antiretroviral treatment by the end of 2005. Additionally, the WHO HIV department has links to many key topics such as ARV, TB and OI treatment, links on HIV infections, and a basic ART training course for PLHA and those supporting them on treatment.
Women, Children, and HIV is jointly sponsored by the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center and the Center for HIV Information of the University of California at San Francisco. Tthis site covers the topics of preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission, infant feeding, clinical care of women and children living with HIV infection, and the support of orphans. The site aims to contribute to improving the scale and quality of international HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programmes for women and children by increasing access to authoritative HIV/AIDS information. It offers access to a library of materials, country programmes, and resources on women, children, and HIV. The site also features an up-to-date news section.
