The Alliance is committed to regional programming and is currently implementing two regional programmes in Africa: the North Africa and Near East Regional Programme and the Africa Regional Programme which focuses on Sub-Saharan Africa. The regional programmes maximise the added value to country programmes in terms of developing innovative approaches, sharing knowledge and expertise as well as increasing the Alliance’s involvement in the regional policy agenda.

Africa Regional Programme

The Africa Regional Programme (ARP) is a three-year programme (2005-2007), funded by the Dutch, Danish and Swedish governments, which aims to contribute to enhancing the quality and scaling up of activities in HIV prevention, care and impact mitigation across national borders in sub-Saharan Africa.

The ARP supports Alliance partners in the region to work together to identify and address common needs, share experiences and lessons, and contribute to regional decision-making on the response to HIV and AIDS.

North Africa and Near East Regional Programme

The North Africa and Near East Regional Programme (NAR) is a three-year programme (2004-2007), funded by USAID/ANE, which aims to reduce the spread of HIV among men who have sex with men in the sub-region.

The NAR supports the mobilisation of civil society to meet the sexual health needs of men who have sex with men in North Africa. This is being done by increasing the coverage of community focused prevention efforts, institutional capacity building of civil society organisations and by creating a more enabling environment through advocacy and policy work.
