A study of the experiences of treatment users and health care workers

Antiretroviral treatment in Zambia: A study of the experiences of treatment users and health care workers (English) 286.9Kb
In Zambia, 20 per cent of adults are living with HIV/AIDS. Now that the price of anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment has dropped, the Government has started to scale up its ARV treatment programme. This publication is the result of a preliminary research study for a programme of work by the Alliance and Horizons on behalf of the Zambian Government. It consists of in-depth interviews with 23 individuals receiving ARV treatment, and a small number of clinic personnel, in Lusaka and Ndola. The issues that emerged from the interviews are reflected in the themes of this report, which include adherence to ARVs and side effects, stigma, and prevention for people on ARV treatment.
