Linking HIV and TB
underlying issues to consider when scaling up integration of HIV and TB services in Cambodia
| Linking HIV and TB (English) 187.5Kb | |
| TB and HIV in Cambodia are inextricably linked. Current estimates reveal that 8 per cent of the country’s TB patients are HIV positive, and more than 20 per cent of people living with HIV/AIDS have active TB. But there are major barriers to effective collaboration and linking of TB and HIV/AIDS interventions, leading to missed opportunities to inform and counsel patients and inhibiting early detection and treatment.
This study examines the issues around linking HIV and TB services to scale up prevention, care and support programmes. It was commissioned by the Alliance as part of its ongoing support to KHANA, its linking organisation in Cambodia. Its recommendations include building capacity of HIV and TB teams, and educating private sector providers and traditional healers about TB and HIV. |
