India is facing an accelerating threat from HIV, and some states, such as Andhra Pradesh, are already experiencing a crossover into the general population from high-risk groups. The Alliance and its country office, the India HIV/AIDS Alliance, support three lead partners and 37 NGOs to implement its pioneering programme of home and community-based care and support for children affected by HIV/AIDS, and their families.

In this report, one of the lead partners, Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), draws on its work to identify gaps in existing services and propose effective initiatives, policies and examples of good practice for dealing with the issues faced by children affected by HIV/AIDS. The report looks at the impact of HIV/AIDS on children and their families in Andhra Pradesh, current care and support responses and examples of good practice.
