Greater involvement of PLHA in NGO service delivery: Findings from a four-country study

Greater involvement of PLHA in NGO service delivery (English) 2.08Mb
There has been growing recognition of the importance of involving people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in delivering prevention, care and support services in developing countries, but there has been little research into the impact of this involvement – on PLHA themselves, others affected by HIV/AIDS, and NGOs.

This report summarises the findings of a study carried out between 1998 and 2001 by the Alliance in collaboration with Horizons, looking at how NGOs have involved PLHA in their response activities.

It focuses on 17 NGOs carrying out HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support in four countries: Burkina Faso, Ecuador, India and Zambia. It identifies the conditions that foster PLHA involvement, such as time and remuneration, and suggests strategies for ensuring meaningful involvement.
