New funding opportunities for civil society to tackle HIV
The International HIV/AIDS Alliance today welcomed the call from the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria for new funding proposals to tackle HIV. Thanks to the introduction of some new measures, civil society and affected and marginalised communities (including sex workers, men who have sex with men and injecting drug users) will now have greater opportunity to access money from the Global Fund to support responses to HIV.

International HIV/AIDS Alliance and UNAIDS renew collaborating centre agreement
The Alliance and UNAIDS have renewed their commitment to work together to support the global efforts to reach universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for all those in need collaboration, with the signing of a new agreement for the Alliance to act as a UNAIDS collaborating centre.

Active participation by civil society organisations in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Senegal has led to this West Africa country boasting once of the lowest HIV prevalence rates in sub-Saharan Africa. It has also been praised for having one of the most successful responses to HIV among low and middle-income countries.

Revised HIV data shows need to invest in hardest hit communities
The Alliance has welcomed the news that fewer people around the world are estimated to be living with HIV than previously thought. This follows the release of better epidemiological data from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), which has given a more accurate understanding of the global HIV epidemic.
